The projected tax impact to the average taxpayer* for the FHS Building Project is $491 over five years. That’s an increase of $25, or $5 per year, over the original projection in 2021 of $466 over five years. This $25 increase is driven primarily by higher interest rates and the subsequent increase in borrowing costs. It is important to note that the tax impact of the high school building project will be higher than the original 2021 projection regardless of the outcome of the December 8 referendum.
The Project Cost page on the FHS Building Project’s website contains more information on the Town’s Financial Forecast and other financial information related to the FHS building project.
*The average taxpayer is one who owns a home with an assessed value of $226,777. Assessed value is 70% of market value, which in this case would be $324,000.
