In addition to the current municipal campus location on Montieth Drive (off Route 4), the FHS Building Committee looked at 24 other properties in town to determine whether an alternate suitable location exists for a new FHS facility.
The committee reviewed 17 Town-owned and 7 privately owned sites throughout Farmington and evaluated them each on several criteria, including:
- Size of lot (minimum of 15 acres, ideally 30-40)
- Location and accessibility
- Environmental issues
- Current use and any deeded use restrictions
Of the 24 sites reviewed, only one – a section of the Westwoods Golf Course property – was deemed to be a possible alternate site. Further research revealed that deed restrictions on the property would require a land swap, which the FHS Building Committee deemed time-consuming and cost-prohibitive. The Committee therefore decided to keep the high school on the Montieth Drive municipal campus.
