The $9.7 million recommended by the FHS Building Committee is comprised of the following:
Base Bid Amount Over Budget: $5,931,967.00
Alternates and Tennis Courts: $3,752,056.00
TOTAL: $9,684,023.00
The Tennis Courts and Alternates were reluctantly removed from the project scope during the cost-cutting (value engineering) process and identified as alternates with the hope that they would be included if bidding was favorable. If these items are not included in the project, they will not be eligible for the 30% reimbursement at a later date. Adding these items back in restores the project to the original scope of what was approved at the first referendum in 2021, while utilizing the additional reimbursement approved by the state.
The Alternates are not extra or additional items that the FHS Building Committee would like to include beyond what was presented to the community and approved by voters in 2021. They are items that were included in the original project but taken out in the cost-cutting process in an effort to reduce costs to address rising inflation. Alternatives listed include a third elevator, less durable materials that would require more maintenance, and items that increase building efficiency. Below is a snapshot list of the Alternatives listed by the Building Committee. A full list of items considered and either accepted or rejected during the cost-cutting process is also available.
