Farmington Patch Letter: Former Top Official Supports School Plan

From:
Nancy Nickerson
Former Chair, Board of Education; Former Chair, Town Council
Original: Patch.com

To the Editor:

Farmington is a great town to live, work and raise a family.

We have an excellent school system that is highly regarded in Connecticut and beyond our borders. There is a time when a facility comes into play and has an impact on the teaching and learning in the classroom. I believe that time is NOW for Farmington High School. Without a new facility, I believe the excellent education we have come to expect and enjoy will be compromised.

There has been no better time to take on a project because of the expiration of debt service of major projects of 15-to-20 years ago, historically low interest rates and a due diligence process that has spanned many years. The bandaid approach has reached a point of diminishing returns and is no longer viable. Support signals to prospective residents the value we place on education and thereby enhances the value of our homes.

I encourage my fellow citizens to support a new high school in Farmington to ensure the excellence in education our children and future generations deserve.

Vote yes on June 3.

Nancy Nickerson
Former Chair, Board of Education
Former Chair, Town Council
